While waiting, here are a few precious tips to help you choose the best tango shoes for you!

WOMEN TANGO SHOES: OPEN SANDALS OR CLOSED TOE?

PepiTango suggests to the newcomers to tango dance, to select closed toe shoes, possibly made of suple material, best choices are suede or very soft leather, with a low or medium heel and closed also at the back: the foot should be well supported also around the ankle. Closed toe tango shoes or tango sneakers represent a good choice as they protect the toes and the nails from the possible risks of injury caused by less experienced tango partners. Once the tango dancer acquires more experience, she will be able to use open toe sandals without risks.

HEEL HEIGHT OF TANGO SHOES

For the beginner tango dancers, the heel of the shoes for Argentine tango shoulD never exceed 6/7 centimeters. Only after having acquired some experience with the basics of Argentine tango dance, it will be possible to go to a higher heel, without however exceeding 10 centimeters.

TANGO SHOES: THE RIGHT SOLE

Usually the Milongas are held indoors that have good floors, appropriate for tango dance. It is therefore possible to use tango shoes with suede soles in this environment. In the summer, however, there are many “illegal” Milongas and open air Milongas: in these cases, it is necessary to have tango shoes with a leather sole, or tango sneakers that are more resistent and better suited to allow pivoting without effort. In any case, Argentine tango shoes must be made with flexible, soft materials: they should wear on the foot like a glove, because “feeling” the floor is key for the tango dancer.

THE WIDTH OF THE SOLE FOR ARGENTINE TANGO SHOES

It is extremely important to choose the appropriate width, without letting ourselves “charmed” only by the look of the tango shoes that we are going to select. Comfort is an essential element to be able to further our skills and passion for Argentine tango, without running unnecessary risks for the feet, the ankles and the back. It is therefore imperative to choose women tango shoes with a wide sole or narrow sole, in the ideal size for one’s foot.

PADDING OF THE SOLES OF TANGO SHOES

The Argentine tango shoes must support the foot and at the same time that support should be soft. During the dance, the foot is subjected to stresses and efforts that are different from the ones we experience in everyday life, therefore it is important to pay attention when choosing women tango shoes that have good, appropriate padding.

TANGO SHOES: MATERIALS AND COMPONENTS

The materials and components used to make Argentine tango shoes are selected with extreme care by specialized manufacturers. The quality of all the materials, from the insole to the glues used to attach it, guarantees that the final product will not be harmful to the skin of the foot: because of traspiration there could be the risk for the foot of absorbing harmful chemical elements. It is therefore advisable to avoid purchasing products that are too inexpensive and that, because of their cheap materials, could end up being uncomfortable, thus spoiling the magic of the dance and possibly causing the risks we mentioned above. You should always discuss and inquire about these issues with the manufacturer.
